AC Milan Confirms Ronaldinho Signing

AC Milan announced on their club web site that the Italian giants will make official Wednesday the signing of former World Player of the Year Ronaldinho. He will undergo a medical on Wednesday and provided all goes well will sign a three year deal with Milan.

Italian sources are saying Milan will pay just £14.6 million for the Brazilian star, about £10 million less than Manchester City was reportedly offering.

Now that the move seems certain, the implications can star to be considered.  For Barcelona, there are no implications.  They are getting some money be it is not so much that their plans will be effected.  Ronaldinho was a non-factor on the pitch last season and the club was making this season’s plans under the assumption he would not be playing.

For AC Milan, Ronaldinho takes up the second attacking midfielder role in their Christmas tree formation, beside fellow Brazilian World Player of the Year Kaká.  With AC Milan paying less than most has anticipated they would, they will have the money to go and get Emmanuel Adebayor or, an even better fit, Didier Drogba.  A top-of-formation of Drogba, Ronaldinho and Kaká would be scary for everybody (including Milan).

The huge loser is Manchester City.  There are no other options for them.  They put all their eggs in this basketball.  Ronaldinho was their ticket to status as premier club.  They may be able to get a player who can contribute as much on the pitch, but Ronaldinho’s rejection of fee and contract is a huge credibility hit.  Essentially, the Brazilian said there was no amount of money they could give him to convince him to go to Manchester City.
